Project Overview

Codilar partnered with Danube Home to replatform their existing open-source website onto an enterprise-grade, headless Adobe Commerce Cloud solution built for scale, speed, and regional complexity. The engagement covered the full spectrum: platform architecture, NexPWA frontend development, RTL Arabic localization, AI-powered search and personalization via UNBXD, multi-website and multi-currency configuration across six countries, unified inventory management, Click and Collect implementation, and bi-directional marketplace integration with Lazada and Shopee.

The platform was architected to handle 50,000-plus SKUs at launch and designed to scale to 35 countries and 100,000-plus SKUs as Danube Home's regional footprint continues to grow.

Most replatforming projects fail at the inventory layer. That is where we started on Danube Home, and that is why the rest held together.

Under the Hood of Danube Home's Digital Transformation

When the Catalog Is the Real Challenge

Danube Home is not a simple retail brand. It is a destination. Customers do not browse its catalog the way they browse a clothing store. They visit because they are planning a kitchen, redesigning a living room, or furnishing an entire apartment. The product range spans luxury sanitary ware, flooring, curtains, chandeliers, modular kitchens, garden furniture, and dozens of other home interior categories. More than 50,000 SKUs, each with its own variants, imagery, specifications, and installation context.

When Danube Home approached Codilar, the challenge was not that the brand lacked a digital presence. It had one. The challenge was that the platform underneath it could not carry the weight of what the brand had become. An open-source Magento instance built for a smaller operation was now expected to serve a growing base of mobile-first shoppers across six countries, handle a catalog of tens of thousands of products, and power the kind of personalized, fast, regionally nuanced experience that converts high-consideration furniture buyers. That gap between what the platform was and what the business needed was the brief Codilar walked into.

Why Headless Was Not a Trend Decision

The choice to go headless with Adobe Commerce Cloud and NexPWA was not about following an architectural trend. It was the answer to a specific set of constraints that could not be resolved any other way. Danube Home's audience is 85% mobile. In the GCC, that means shoppers on a range of devices and network conditions, expecting an experience that feels as fast as a native app. A traditional Magento frontend could not get there.

NexPWA, Codilar's proprietary PWA solution built on ReactJS, decoupled the frontend from the Adobe Commerce backend and delivered pages in under 200 milliseconds. We connected the two layers through Magento's inbuilt GraphQL API and custom-written queries where the standard API fell short. The result was a storefront that loaded like an app, without requiring customers to download one.

The headless architecture also solved a future-state problem. Danube Home needed a platform that could scale to 35 countries and 100,000-plus SKUs without a rebuild. By separating the commerce logic from the presentation layer, we gave the brand the flexibility to expand market by market, add new frontends for new regions, and iterate on the customer experience without touching the backend every time.

Six Countries, One Instance, No Shortcuts

Within a single Adobe Commerce Cloud instance, we configured six independent country websites, each with its own currency, payment gateway, and shipping integration. For a brand operating across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait, that meant six distinct commercial environments that had to feel locally native while being managed from a single platform.

Language and layout were not afterthoughts. Arabic is read right to left, which means the entire interface logic has to mirror. Navigation flows differently. Iconography has to be reconsidered. Design components that work in English do not simply flip for Arabic. We built a flexible interface that handled both layouts natively, with localized design elements and culturally appropriate variations for each market. The multi-country architecture was also designed with Danube Home's growth trajectory in mind. Adding a new market does not require a new build. The infrastructure already supports it.

The Invisible Work That Makes Omnichannel Real

Danube Home is not a pure-play eCommerce brand. It operates large-format showrooms across the region, and those physical locations are a core part of how customers buy. A shopper might research online, visit a showroom to see a sofa in person, and then complete the purchase digitally. Or they might buy online and collect from the nearest store. That journey only works if the inventory and order data across every channel is synchronized in real time.

We used Magento's Multi-Source Inventory feature to unify stock data across Danube Home's warehouses, showrooms, and eCommerce channel. Every product's availability is accurate regardless of which channel the customer is looking at. We then layered on BOPIS, Buy Online Pick Up In Store, so customers could place an order digitally and collect from the showroom nearest to them. That capability closes a meaningful gap in the furniture buying journey: it lets customers who want to feel the product before committing make their purchase decision online while retaining the option to verify in person.

Beyond the owned channels, we built bi-directional integrations between Adobe Commerce and Lazada and Shopee, two of the region's major marketplace platforms. Stock levels and orders now flow in both directions, eliminating the manual reconciliation that had previously created inefficiencies across the three sales channels.

Letting AI Do the Navigation

Furniture is a high-consideration purchase. A customer deciding between two sofas is not making the same kind of decision as someone choosing between two t-shirts. They are weighing dimensions, materials, color compatibility, delivery lead times, and price across multiple browsing sessions. The platform had to be smart enough to support that extended consideration journey without making the customer feel lost in a catalog of 50,000 products.

We integrated the UNBXD AI engine to handle search results and product recommendations in real time. UNBXD analyzes each customer's browsing behavior and surfaces the most relevant products based on what they have been looking at, what similar customers have purchased, and how Danube Home's merchandising data shapes the recommendation logic. The result is a discovery experience that feels guided rather than overwhelming, which matters enormously when the catalog is this large and the purchase decision is this involved.

Built for Where Danube Home Is Going

Codilar replatformed Danube Home from a constrained open-source installation onto an enterprise headless Adobe Commerce Cloud solution built for six countries, 50,000-plus SKUs, and a mobile-first audience that expects app-like speed. The architecture is already ready for the next 30 countries. If your brand is running on infrastructure that cannot keep pace with where the business is headed, Codilar has built this before and can build it for you.
