Project Overview

Codilar partnered with Shure Audio Technologies Pvt. Ltd. to design, build, and launch India's first official Shure direct-to-consumer commerce platform. The engagement spanned end-to-end from discovery and architecture through compliance engineering, PWA development, cloud infrastructure, and post-launch optimization.

Codilar delivered a Magento 2 foundation powered by NexPWA, wired to automated GST and BIS compliance layers, Razorpay payments, and a cloud-native DevOps pipeline built for nationwide scale.

Business Challenges

!

No owned D2C channel in India; all sales moved through third-party dealers and marketplaces

!

High-involvement category requiring rich content and comparison tools beyond what marketplace listings allow

!

Multi-slab GST calculation and BIS wireless certification validation had to be built into the platform

!

Mobile-first buyers on variable 4G connections demanded sub-2-second load performance

!

Disparate logistics and payment providers needed unification under a single middleware layer

!

No first-party customer data available for personalization, retargeting, or cross-sell

!

Campaign launches depended on developer involvement, delaying time-sensitive promotions

Codilar's Solution Approach

Ran discovery workshops to build audience personas and a journey map anchoring every decision to a business outcome

Architected a Magento 2 and NexPWA core for component-based scalability and plug-and-play extensibility

Built a custom GST engine handling multi-slab tax, GSTIN embedding, and real-time e-invoice generation

Developed a BIS micro-service that validates wireless certifications under 200 ms before any SKU reaches the cart

Configured Elasticsearch with application, polar-pattern, and price filters for high-intent product discovery

Deployed RabbitMQ for async event coordination across order webhooks, BIS calls, and courier APIs

Integrated Razorpay with UPI, wallet, and card support inside a single-page checkout flow

Launched AWS blue-green pipelines with auto-scaling and New Relic observability for up to 5,000 concurrent users

Instrumented GA4 and custom CDP events to build a first-party data layer for email, audiences, and cross-sell

Most D2C launches optimize for speed to market. Shure wanted speed on the platform itself. Getting both right meant making compliance invisible and performance non-negotiable from day one.

A Platform Worthy of the Stage

The Gap Between Reputation and Reach

There are brands that dominate a category and brands that dominate the conversation around it. Shure is both. The SM58 microphone has been on more stages, in more broadcast booths, and in more recording studios than any other microphone in history. In India, that reputation arrived ahead of the infrastructure to support it.

By the time Shure Audio Technologies Pvt. Ltd. began evaluating a direct-to-consumer strategy, the brand was already well known to Indian audiophiles, live sound engineers, and content creators. The problem was that knowing Shure and buying from Shure were two entirely different journeys. Prospective customers could research products on Shure's global site, then drift to a marketplace listing, a grey-market import, or a third-party dealer with limited stock and inconsistent pricing. The absence of a controlled digital storefront was not just a revenue question. It was a brand question. For a company whose entire identity is built on sonic precision and professional trust, selling through channels it could not shape was a strategic contradiction.

Selling Premium Audio Is Not Like Selling Anything Else

When we began the discovery phase with Shure's team, one pattern became immediately clear: audio is a high-involvement category. A customer deciding between two wireless microphone systems is not making an impulse purchase. They are weighing polar patterns, frequency ranges, use-case compatibility, and long-term support. That decision process demands more than a product title and a price tag.

Existing commerce templates were not built for this. Marketplaces flatten the consideration journey. Standard Magento storefronts leave the content work to the merchant. We had to build a catalog experience that could function as a consultative layer: rich media, specification comparisons, application-based guided filters, and content that educated as much as it converted. At the same time, the platform had to feel effortless to the buyer. Shure's Indian audience is largely mobile-first, often on variable network connections. An experience that loaded slowly or felt clunky on a mid-range Android device would undercut everything the brand stood for. Speed and depth had to coexist.

The Compliance Layer Nobody Talks About

Building a commerce platform for a wireless audio brand in India is not a standard web project. Shure's product portfolio includes wireless microphone systems subject to BIS certification requirements, and every transaction on the platform triggers GST obligations that vary by product type, buyer classification, and geography.

We built these compliance requirements directly into the commerce architecture rather than treating them as post-purchase workarounds. A custom GST engine handles multi-slab tax calculation at checkout, auto-populates HSN codes, embeds buyer GSTIN on invoices, and generates e-invoice PDFs in real time. A BIS micro-service validates wireless certifications before any SKU reaches the cart, responding in under 200 milliseconds so the buyer never experiences the check. Since launch, the platform has maintained 100% GST compliance with zero manual corrections. That is not a small operational detail. For a brand entering a market directly for the first time, it is the foundation that makes everything else sustainable.

Architecture Built to Move Fast and Stay Stable

Our technology choices for Shure were driven by a single constraint: the platform needed to be fast enough for Indian mobile users today and modular enough for capabilities Shure had not yet defined. Magento 2 provided the commerce backbone. NexPWA provided the delivery layer, bringing mobile app-like speed and an Add-to-Home-Screen experience without the friction of an app store download. Underneath, we wired Elasticsearch for sub-millisecond product discovery, RabbitMQ for asynchronous event coordination across order webhooks and compliance calls, and Razorpay for payments built around how Indian consumers actually transact: UPI, wallets, and cards in a single-page flow. AWS blue-green deployment pipelines with auto-scaling groups meant that a World Music Day campaign spike would not take the site down. New Relic gave Shure's team live visibility into system health without waiting for a developer to pull reports. The result was a release pipeline that cut deployment time from two hours to fifteen minutes and a platform validated to handle 5,000 concurrent users without degradation.

When the Numbers Come Back Better Than Expected

The metrics that came back after launch were not incremental improvements on a baseline. They were a category shift. Mobile load time dropped from 4.5 seconds to 1.3 seconds, well below the industry PWA median of 2.8 seconds. Conversion rates more than doubled. Revenue grew 25% year over year, more than double the average post-PWA lift reported across comparable deployments.

Operationally, the platform paid for itself in ways that do not always appear in a headline metric. Automated order tracking reduced customer service ticket volume by 35%. The CI/CD pipeline freed Shure's team from release bottlenecks. Marketing teams that previously waited days for developer support to launch a campaign can now do it in minutes through the CMS. Perhaps most importantly for Shure's long-term India strategy: the platform now captures first-party data at every touchpoint. GA4 instrumentation and custom CDP events feed email campaigns, look-alike audience segments, and cross-sell triggers that are already lifting email click-through rates by 22%. For a brand that previously had no visibility into its Indian buyers, that is a fundamental shift in how it can grow.

What Shure's Transformation Proves

Codilar built Shure India's commerce platform from the ground up: discovery to deployment, compliance to conversion, architecture to analytics. The result was not just a faster website. It was a complete D2C engine that gave a globally trusted audio brand a direct line to its Indian buyers for the first time. If your brand is navigating a similar move, from channel-dependent to customer-owned, Codilar has built this before and can build it for you.
